HOW YOU ACT IS HOW YOU FEEL!

Back when I used to box there would be days that were just FARKING hard! We would train 6 days per week, 2 hours per night, snake pit on a Sunday, tired, battered and bruised. There was many nights where nothing goes right, you can’t put anything together, everything just OFF! For me they were the hardest. Imagine just getting beaten up by everyone on top of all the emotion and feelings already trying to break you.

There was one night in particular I learned a very valuable lesson that sticks with me to this day!

I was having one of those days, I did not want to be there, I was not focussed. In between rounds I told my coach “I’ve had enough I want to call it a night”.

He said “No, give me one more round and stop acting the way you are. Smile, have fun and enjoy it”.

So, next round I went out. I tried to smile through it, but the intensity was getting to me, my facials, my body language, my energy all showed pain and weakness. (Until this day I was always ‘that guy’ that had the pain face on no matter what I was doing🥴)

Next break I said, “Im done!”, my coach said “no you are not, show no pain in your face, no weak body language and I want you to keep going until you are smiling and enjoying it, then we can call it a night”.

Next round, Im wrecked already, but I wanted this round to be my last so bad because I wanted OUT!

So, I stand tall, dig real deep, no pain on my face, either a smile or no emotion at all.

It wasn’t my best round but felt a little better already. This motivated me to keep going and wanting more. I ended up finishing all the rounds that night and got better as the night went on. Laughing, smiling and left feeling very thankful of my coach, proud of myself and a great lesson learned.

Im writing about this because to get through the workout we did today in our POWER class at Prana you needed to dig deep, stand tall, proud and ready to beat your previous time. Especially that last round.

It was such a pleasure to see people’s whole body language change and energy just shift. You could see the look on their faces just go from broken, to fearless and hungry. Like this inner athlete was brought to the surface ready and waiting for the next round.

Everybody beat their times today but a couple people that spring to mind with conversations we had in class were Jacinta and Reece. Jacinta changed her whole mindset on the task at hand and just got it done, sliced and diced her time. Reece had this look on his face like a savage, staunch soldier ready for war! Absolutely killed his times!

I can almost guarantee that if these people were hunched over with poor body language, a negative attitude, feeding that feeling of being tired and sore, they would not have come close to achieving what they did!

THIS IS A BLOODY GREAT ONE FOR COACHES TOO. WE ARE IN LEADERSHIP ROLES, SO WHETHER YOU WANT TO OR NOT YOU MUST SHOW UP AND LEAD THE WAY FROM THE FRONT!

Next time you are having one of ‘those days’, just remember ..
